הרשות הפלסטינית גינתה בחריפות את ההחלטה למנוע מיושב ראש הרשות, מחמוד אבו מאזן, להגיע לניו יורק ולהשתתף בעצרת הכללית של האו"ם בשבוע הבא. משרד החוץ הפלסטיני הגדיר את ההחלטה האמריקנית שלא להעניק לאבו מאזן אשרת כניסה "בלתי מוצדקת" ו"נדחית".

בנוסף, משרד החוץ הפלסטיני מסר כי הוא רואה בהחלטה זו צעד הפוגע במאמצים לבניית אמון ופיתוח היחסים בין הפלסטינים לארצות הברית. ההחלטה מגיעה על רקע דיונים המתקיימים באו"ם בנוגע לסוגיות אזוריות ובינלאומיות.
