ראש האופוזיציה יאיר לפיד טוען כי ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו פנה אליו במסגרת עדכון ביטחוני וביקש לפתוח את חוק התקציב כדי להעביר כספים נוספים למערכת הביטחון.

לפיד השיב כי הוא תומך בהעברת הכספים לחיזוק צה"ל, אך התנגד לכך שהמקור התקציבי יהיה העלאת מסים על מעמד הביניים ומשרתי המילואים. במקום זאת, הציע לפיד לבטל את הכספים הקואליציוניים ולהפנות את עשרות מיליארדי השקלים המועברים כיום למימון השתמטות חרדית, לטובת תקציב הביטחון.
