Police Probe in Nahariya Leads to Serious Domestic Violence Indictment

מאת אור רביד

The story · English

A complaint that reached Nahariya police through a third party exposed a severe domestic violence case against 45-year-old Issam Daoud from Kafr Yasif. Prosecutors say he subjected his partner, who lived with him in a village in northern Israel, to months of violence, threats, and intimidation.

According to the indictment, Daoud repeatedly assaulted her, including throwing her against kitchen walls, choking her, dragging her on the floor, and causing bruises and injuries to her neck and shoulder. He also allegedly threatened to slap her so hard he would “break your face,” said he would force everyone out of the area and “burn the whole village,” and at one point warned that a blow from him would make her “wet yourself.”

The case was led by Chief Insp. Neta Sharon, Nahariya’s investigations officer. Sharon said the woman initially minimized what happened and did not cooperate with investigators. “The woman at first did not cooperate with the complaint, she belittled the entire incident,” she said. Police said the report did not come from the victim herself, but from a third party who called police, prompting a deeper investigation and repeated interviews until she finally opened up.

The most serious incident described in the indictment allegedly took place earlier this month, when Daoud prevented her from entering the bathroom, slapped her, pulled her hair, and later stood over her in the yard holding an axe while saying, “I will cut you into 3.” Daoud denied the allegations in questioning. Police said domestic violence cases often involve denial or minimization, and Sharon said such investigations require “a lot of sensitivity” and “a lot of determination.” She also noted a rise over the past year in domestic violence complaints from the Arab sector, and said the victim was offered protection options, including a shelter and the police 100 app.
