Nahariya Mayor Files Police Complaint Over Viral Video Alleging Extortion

Nahariya Mayor Ronen Marali, along with the city manager and head of supervision, filed an unusual complaint with the police against a local resident. The complaint stems from a viral video posted by the resident during the recent holiday, which has gained significant traction online. According to the municipality, the video contains severe defamation, slander, and libel, and raises suspicions of an attempted extortion attempt against senior city officials.

This is not the first legal confrontation between the resident and the mayor. The municipality noted that a previous legal proceeding concluded with a judgment regarding earlier publications by the resident, who at the time apologized and admitted his statements were untrue and constituted libel.

In their police complaint, the mayor, city manager, and head of supervision requested an update from law enforcement if, based on a professional assessment, the resident is deemed unfit to stand trial. The municipality stated that its leadership and employees will continue to operate lawfully and will not yield to pressure or attempts to harm their work.

In addition to the criminal proceedings, the city announced that following the police investigation, they intend to consider filing a civil lawsuit and a criminal complaint for libel against the resident. The municipality expressed confidence in the Israel Police to swiftly investigate the complaint and ensure justice in this serious matter.
