Man Charged with Severe Domestic Violence Against Wife in Northern Israel

A 35-year-old man from northern Israel has been indicted in Nazareth Magistrate's Court for two separate incidents of severe domestic violence against his wife, whom he married about eight months ago. The indictment details a series of violent attacks that took place in their shared home in northern Israel. The first incident occurred in April, roughly four months after their wedding, when the husband pushed and struck his wife on the head multiple times, kicked her in the chest, and caused injuries including a suspected broken rib. During this attack, he also dragged her by her hair across the house towards the living room and kicked her there.

The second incident happened earlier this month during a nighttime argument triggered by the wife's suspicion that her husband was messaging another woman. The husband verbally abused her, spat in her face, and struck her while she was in the bedroom. When she tried to leave and asked him to sleep in the living room, he allegedly pushed her while she was lying on the bed, dragged her by her hair again, and kicked her multiple times, including blows to her head. The wife managed to escape to the first floor and hid behind a table, but the husband followed, threw chairs at her, climbed onto the table, grabbed her hair, and struck her head and hands. He then choked her in the bedroom and hit her again. The wife eventually locked herself in the bathroom and called the police.

The attacks resulted in bruises on her face, neck, hands, and abdomen. The indictment accuses the husband of two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm to his spouse. This case was brought to light by the Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women and Gender Equality and the campaign for the return of hostages, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
