Man Threatens to Kill Estranged Wife and Slashes Her Car Tires in Northern Israel

A 32-year-old man from the Emek region is accused of threatening to murder his wife after she decided to separate from him. According to the indictment filed by prosecutor Ofir Kam from the Northern District Attorney's Office, the man deliberately punctured the tires of his estranged wife's car and sent her photos of the damage to intimidate her. The charges include assault, threats, intentional property damage, and illegal possession of a knife. The case is set to be heard at the Nazareth Magistrate's Court.

The wife had informed her husband of her intention to divorce and moved with their children to her parents' home in the city. After she stopped answering his calls, the husband began sending threatening messages, including death threats. He then went to her parents' house armed with a knife, slashed two tires on her parked car causing damage estimated at 750 shekels, and sent her images of the punctured tires to lure her outside.

Police arrived promptly after the woman called emergency services and arrested the man before she left the house, preventing a potential tragedy. Family violence investigator Sergeant Major Veronika Surkin emphasized the danger had the woman gone out alone to check the car.

The indictment details the threatening WhatsApp messages sent by the man, including insults and warnings that the situation would escalate. Defense attorney Moti Melnik, representing the accused through the public defender's office, stated the couple faced a financial crisis and that the man cooperated fully, providing his version of events. The court allowed his release under conditions, a decision upheld by the district court. The defense is reviewing the investigation materials to determine next steps, describing the accused as a normative individual with stable employment who admits to some of the allegations.
