Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv Reach Athena Cup Semifinals

The second round of the Athena Cup women's football tournament took place on Tuesday night, with Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv securing their spots in the semifinals. Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem dominated Maccabi Holon 3-0, with Michaela Varko opening the scoring in the 23rd minute, followed by a goal and an assist from young Ella Ben Tzvi in the second half. This victory gave Katamon six points from two games, guaranteeing their place among the final four.

In another match, Maccabi Tel Aviv edged Hapoel Ra'anana 1-0 thanks to a goal by Eilat Cohen in the 62nd minute. Maccabi Tel Aviv also secured six points and a semifinal berth before the last round, while Ra'anana remains without points. The group standings suggest that even if a three-way tie occurs with Hapoel Tel Aviv and Kiryat Gat, Maccabi's higher league position last season ensures their advancement.

Meanwhile, Hapoel Tel Aviv defeated M.S. Kiryat Gat 2-0, with Eden Avital scoring twice, including an early penalty. This win marked Hapoel Tel Aviv's first victory of the season and put them level on points with Kiryat Gat, setting up a decisive final group match to determine who advances to the semifinals. Another group match between Bnot Netanya and Maccabi Hadera is scheduled for Wednesday at Netanya Stadium.
