Palestinian Authority Urges UN Peace Council to Halt Israeli Attacks on UNRWA Headquarters

The Palestinian Authority has called on the UN Peace Council to urgently convene and take action to stop Israeli attacks on UN headquarters and UNRWA facilities. The statement condemned the assaults as a dangerous escalation and a serious violation of international law. This appeal follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement that Israel has begun evacuating the UNRWA compound in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Kafr Aqab.

The Palestinian Authority described the ongoing events in Jerusalem, Kalandia, and the West Bank as part of an Israeli policy aimed at undermining the existence of the Palestinian people. Netanyahu's statement emphasized that the evacuation is being carried out in accordance with Israeli law and his directives, citing concerns that UNRWA employees were involved in terrorism and the October 7 attacks.

Earlier on the same day, large Israeli police forces entered the UNRWA compound in Kafr Aqab alongside municipal contractors to implement the evacuation. This operation is part of Israel's broader effort to cease UNRWA's activities within its territory. The situation remains tense as both sides assert their positions regarding the presence and role of UNRWA in the region.
