Rabbi Dov Lando Urges Support for 99 Orphan Weddings with Personal Blessing

Rabbi Dov Lando, the revered leader of the Torah world and head of the Council of Torah Sages, has issued a special call to the public to support 99 upcoming weddings of orphans in the month of Elul. The managers of the charity organization Kuppat Ha'Ir presented him with detailed data showing that each of these weddings involves orphans who have been thoroughly vetted and are eligible for financial assistance as a significant act of charity and kindness.

In response, Rabbi Lando personally wrote a handwritten letter urging people to contribute, emphasizing not only financial support but also active involvement. He blessed the donors with "a good inscription and sealing," the traditional blessing sought during the High Holy Days, underscoring the spiritual importance of this mitzvah. The letter highlights that supporting these weddings is among the highest forms of charity, especially when done anonymously through charity collectors, fulfilling the principle of "giving in secret compels even the sternest."

The practical request is modest: a donation of ten shekels per orphan bride or groom, totaling 990 shekels to cover all 99 weddings. Each number represents a young person who has endured significant hardship and loss. The goal is to enable these orphans to celebrate their weddings joyfully and without financial worry, while receiving Rabbi Lando’s explicit blessing.
