Israeli MK Tzvi Sukkot Faces Broad Political Backlash Over Monument Vandalism in West Bank

Israeli Member of Knesset Tzvi Sukkot from the Religious Zionism party sparked widespread condemnation after footage showed him smashing a monument in the Palestinian village of Adama near Nablus. The monument was reportedly dedicated to militants, and the incident occurred on August 25, 2026. The Israeli military stated that while the entry into the village was coordinated, the demolition was unauthorized and manipulative, diverting troops from operational duties. The army clarified that the monument was already scheduled for official demolition in the coming weeks.

The political fallout was immediate and severe, with criticism coming from both opposition and coalition members. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar was the first coalition member to publicly denounce Sukkot, emphasizing that decisions in Judea and Samaria must be made by the state and security forces alone. Former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot accused Sukkot of lying to the military and damaging Israel’s security and international standing. Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett condemned the act as endangering soldiers for political gain and criticized the current government’s instability.

Additional voices included Yair Golan, chair of the Democratic Camp, who called Sukkot a danger who should be imprisoned rather than serving in the Knesset. Hili Tropper, head of the Zionist House of Reservists, criticized the misuse of IDF forces for political stunts that risk soldiers’ lives.
