Tattoo Artist Tamar Bar Launches Vibrant Matcha Pop-Up in Florentin

Tamar Bar, a renowned tattoo artist turned café owner, has opened a colorful matcha pop-up in Florentin, Tel Aviv. Located at 5 Maon Street, the pop-up is part of the ongoing series by the Florentin quartet and offers high-quality ceremonial grade matcha imported from Mie Prefecture, Japan, through the Suzuma food import company. Tamar and her sister Shira, who run Café Bar on Wolfson Street, created the pop-up to develop their matcha offerings, featuring unique additions such as spirulina, fresh and frozen fruits, and even peanut butter and jam, served with various milk alternatives.

Tamar’s matcha drinks include creative blends like Earl Grey matcha and hojicha with black sesame, emphasizing the quality of the tea and the innovative toppings. The pop-up’s aesthetic reflects Tamar’s artistic background, with handmade ceramic cups and custom product logos. Tamar studied visual communication at Bezalel and tattooing in Berlin before returning to Israel to open the tattoo studio Lev with Itamar Lachman.

The café serves specialty coffee from the respected Na’ama roastery in Haifa and offers a mostly vegan menu, including sourdough sandwiches and desserts like matcha ice cream and peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Tamar prefers not to label the café as vegan due to social perceptions but personally follows a vegan lifestyle. The pop-up is located near the distinctive round towers in Florentin, a neighborhood undergoing gentrification, which Tamar acknowledges with cautious optimism.

Tamar hopes the pop-up will become a permanent fixture, either at its current location or elsewhere, inviting visitors to enjoy both the unique matcha creations and the engaging personality behind the venture.
