Second Temple Period Burial Cave Discovered in Silwan During Israeli Security Operation

A burial cave dating back to the Second Temple period was uncovered today in Silwan during an operational activity by Jerusalem Border Police forces. The operation was part of a broader effort by the Jerusalem district following violent conflicts between families in the village. During the operation, security personnel conducted searches and accompanied representatives from various authorities in the area inhabited by individuals involved in the incidents.

The burial cave was found beneath a building, alongside other archaeological artifacts. Experts from the Israel Antiquities Authority arrived at the site to perform an initial examination. Preliminary findings indicate that the discovered tombs date back to the Second Temple era. Police and Border Police forces continue to secure the site in coordination with the Antiquities Authority to facilitate further handling of the findings.
