Judge Allows National Security Minister Ben Gvir to Attend Security Classes Event Despite Government Lawyer's Opposition

Noam Solberg, chairman of Israel's Central Elections Committee, ruled on Monday that National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir may participate in a ceremony honoring security classes. This decision came after the government legal advisor, Gali Baharav-Miara, had prohibited Ben Gvir's attendance, fearing the event could be exploited for illegal election propaganda. The ruling followed a petition filed against Ben Gvir's participation in the event.

In his decision, Solberg noted that Ben Gvir committed not to deliver a speech containing election propaganda and recommended that he submit his speech in advance for legal review. Ben Gvir responded to the ruling by criticizing Baharav-Miara, stating she had previously failed to stop the establishment of the security classes and had now failed again in preventing him from attending the event to thank the participants.

Ben Gvir emphasized that he founded over 1,000 security classes and planned to express gratitude to the thousands of volunteers who dedicate their time and risk their lives to protect Israeli civilians. The event and related legal dispute highlight ongoing tensions between political figures and government legal authorities regarding election conduct and public security initiatives.
