Judge Allows National Security Minister Ben Gvir to Speak at Volunteer Appreciation Event Despite Attorney General's Objection

The chairman of the Elections Committee, Judge Noam Solberg, rejected the position of the Attorney General and ruled that National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir may participate and speak at an event honoring police volunteers and rapid response teams. However, he must refrain from engaging in political matters during the event. This decision came after a petition sought to prevent Ben Gvir from attending and speaking, arguing that the event constituted election propaganda linked to Ben Gvir's success in establishing over 1,000 rapid response teams. The Attorney General had opposed his participation on these grounds.

In response, Minister Ben Gvir criticized the Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, stating she had repeatedly failed to stop his initiatives. He emphasized that he founded more than 1,000 rapid response teams and intended to publicly thank the thousands of volunteers who dedicate their time and risk their lives for the security of Israeli citizens. The ruling allows him to attend the event and express gratitude without political campaigning.

Separately, Yaron Avraham commented on the situation, noting that former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would never have taken such actions. This development highlights ongoing tensions between Ben Gvir and the Attorney General's office regarding the politicization of security initiatives.
