Attorney General Opposes Minister Ben Gvir's Participation in Police Volunteer Tribute Event

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has opposed National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir's participation in an upcoming tribute event for police volunteer security teams, scheduled this week at Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv. While Baharav-Miara indicated that the event itself could be legitimate, she warned that the involvement of a minister who is also a candidate in the upcoming elections might be viewed as election propaganda. In updated election guidelines issued five days before the event, she emphasized the need to distinguish between holding the event and the participation of political figures. She also noted that the identities of speakers must be scrutinized, as providing a platform to ministers or politicians could be prohibited. Following media reports, a petition was filed with the chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Solberg, demanding that Ben Gvir be barred from attending. A decision on the matter is expected later today.
