Legal Adviser Urges Removal of National Security Minister Ben Gvir Over Police Interference

Israel's Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara informed the Supreme Court that efforts to reach an agreement with National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir regarding his ministry's conduct toward the police have failed. Baharav-Miara stated that the situation on the ground shows ongoing systematic violations, many of which remain unknown to the public and legal counsel due to a lack of police reporting and unresponsiveness to inquiries. She argued that attempts to regulate the boundaries through procedures or principles have proven ineffective, as the minister is not obligated to follow them. Citing continuous harm to the police's professional and political independence and concerns about chilling effects on law enforcement during election periods, she concluded that the only remedy to protect democracy and the rule of law is to remove Minister Ben Gvir from the government.

In response, Minister Ben Gvir dismissed the Attorney General's statement, saying, "Gali, I don't see you at all. You will continue trying to topple the right-wing government, and we will keep working and, with God's help, we will win."
