Israeli Premier League Kicks Off with Three Decisive Wins
The 2026/2027 Israeli Premier League season began on Sunday evening with three matches that all ended with clear winners. Samuel Owusu scored the first goal of the season, giving Maccabi Petah Tikva a 1-0 lead against Hapoel Kfar Saba. Maccabi Petah Tikva went on to win 2-1, temporarily placing them at the top of the league table.
In another match, Ironi Tiberias secured a 1-0 victory over Hapoel Petah Tikva thanks to a goal by Itamar Shabiro. Meanwhile, Maccabi Haifa defeated Hapoel Ramat Gan 2-1 with two goals from Bruninho, despite a late goal from Ramat Gan’s Plakuschenko. Notably, Maccabi Haifa’s Eitan Azulai missed a penalty in the 89th minute.
Upcoming fixtures include Hapoel Jerusalem hosting Maccabi Tel Aviv in Rehovot on Monday, following Maccabi Tel Aviv’s recent loss in Lugano. Maccabi Netanya will host Bnei Sakhnin on Monday as well. The match between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Be’er Sheva has been postponed to allow Be’er Sheva to prepare for their Champions League playoff second leg.
