Jerusalem Launches L3 Light Rail Line, Expanding City's Tram Network
The Ministry of Transportation, Jerusalem Municipality, and the city's master transportation plan team inaugurated the L3 line this morning, marking the first segment of the green line in Jerusalem's light rail system. This launch establishes Jerusalem as the first city in Israel with a comprehensive light rail network.
The new L3 line spans approximately seven kilometers and includes 13 stations. It connects the Tzurim station to the Malha station, passing through neighborhoods such as Givat Mordechai, Pat, and Gonenim. Key locations linked by the line include the Government Complex, Givat Ram campus, the Malha sports complex, and the Binyanei HaUma convention center.
The L3 route integrates with the existing red line (L1) and the Yitzhak Navon railway station. Upcoming phases of the network, which will extend service to Gilo and Mount Scopus, are expected to open in the coming months, further enhancing Jerusalem's public transportation infrastructure.
