Israeli Police Charge Three in Deadly Golan Heights Double Murder and Attempted Shooting
Following an extensive investigation by the Northern District's Central Unit, the Israeli prosecution is set to file serious charges against three suspects accused of belonging to a criminal hit squad responsible for a double murder in the Golan Heights. The incident occurred on June 19 around noon, when gunfire targeted a vehicle in the village of Bukata, killing Marwan Abu Shaheen, 52, from Bukata, and Saada Saada, 56, from Hurfeish. The police, led by Northern District Commander Major General Meir Eliyahu, transferred the case to the Northern Unit (YAMAR) for further investigation.
According to police findings, the suspects premeditated the attack, having rented a cabin in Bukata the day before and arriving in two vehicles purchased in advance from a car lot in Usfiya. The investigation initially proceeded covertly before becoming public, leading to several arrests and the seizure of multiple vehicles, including the one allegedly used in the murder, found in Kiryat Shmona. One key suspect evaded capture for days.
A dramatic breakthrough occurred on the night of July 5 during a police operation in Yarka to locate the fugitive. Officers spotted a masked man exiting a business who allegedly shot and seriously wounded an employee. The suspect was arrested armed with a pistol and identified as the same individual wanted for the Golan double murder.
The Northern District prosecution will file indictments today at the Nazareth District Court against three men aged 43 from Sajur, 28 from Samia, and 19 from Kiryat Shmona. The youngest will also face charges for the attempted murder in Yarka. Major General Eliyahu emphasized that solving murder cases and combating serious crime remain top priorities, with ongoing investment in intelligence, technology, and operational resources.
