Israeli Police Charge Three in Northern Golan Double Murder Over Protection Payment Dispute
Two months after the double murder of Saada Saada and Marwan Abu Shaheen in Bukata, northern Golan Heights, Israeli authorities are charging three suspects involved in the killing. The victims were shot dead after Abu Shaheen refused to pay protection money. The main suspect, Ronen Araida, fled but was captured on June 19 during a police operation in Birka, following a shooting incident there.
The investigation revealed that a criminal gang from northern Israel planned the assassination in advance, renting a cabin in the northern Golan the day before and arriving with two vehicles purchased in Usfiya. Despite arresting seven suspects and seizing a vehicle used in the crime, Araida remained at large until the July 5 police pursuit in Birka, where he was identified after shooting at a worker and fleeing on a suspected stolen motorcycle. Once unmasked, police confirmed he was the same suspect wanted for the Golan double murder.
Today, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office will file serious indictments against Ayman Ibrahim (43) from Sajur, Said Madah (28), and Ronen Araida (19) from Marrar, with Araida also charged with attempted murder in Birka. Northern District Police Commander Meir Eliyahu emphasized the priority of solving murder cases and combating serious crime, stating that the police are using advanced technology and intelligence to ensure all suspects face justice.
