Israeli Police Charge Three in Double Murder Over Extortion in Northern Golan Heights
The Northern District Prosecutor's Office is set to file serious charges against three suspects involved in a double murder in the northern Golan Heights. The victims, Marwan Abu Shaheen (52) and Saada Saada (56), were killed in June in the village of Buq'ata. The murders stemmed from Abu Shaheen's refusal to pay extortion fees to a criminal organization.
The fatal shooting occurred on June 19 when gunfire targeted a vehicle in Buq'ata, resulting in the deaths of both men. An undercover investigation by the Northern District's Central Unit, led by Commander Meir Eliyahu, revealed that the hit squad had planned the attack in advance, renting a cabin in the northern Golan the day before and acquiring two vehicles from a car lot in Usfiya.
Following the transition to an open investigation, seven suspects were arrested and the vehicle used was seized in Kiryat Shmona, though the main suspect initially escaped. In early July, police in the town of Yarka identified and pursued a masked suspect who had shot and seriously wounded a worker. The suspect fired at officers and fled on a possibly stolen motorcycle but was ultimately identified as the primary suspect in the double murder case.
Commander Eliyahu emphasized that solving murder cases and combating serious crime remain top priorities for the Northern District Police. He stated that the police are deploying their best resources, technology, intelligence, and skilled personnel to solve cases and ensure that all involved criminals are brought to justice. He added that officers continue working intensively to resolve ongoing cases and imprison those involved in serious crimes.
