Trump Announces Unprecedented Economic War and Isolation Against Iran
US President Donald Trump declared an unprecedented economic war and isolation campaign against Iran, warning countries and entities that assist Tehran of severe economic consequences. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Thursday night, Trump stated that Iran had failed to capitalize on what he described as a major opportunity to reach an agreement with Washington. He emphasized that no one had offered Iran a better chance for a deal than himself, but Tehran had failed to seize it.
Trump outlined that the new measures would severely damage Iran's ability to maintain international economic relations. He warned that any country or institution providing financial aid or support to Iran would face significant repercussions from the US. Trump described the campaign as the most destructive economic operation ever taken against any country, calling it a "D-Day" economic offensive aimed at isolating and defeating the Iranian threat.
He also highlighted the damage already inflicted on Iran's military capabilities, including the disappearance of its navy, destruction of its air force, ruined military factories, a worthless currency, and a state on the brink of collapse. Trump reiterated his opposition to Iran obtaining nuclear weapons, stating that the "madmen" were on their last legs and that these historic steps would silence their ability to spread terror globally.
Earlier the same day, Trump told reporters that the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz might decline as alternative energy infrastructure expands, mentioning plans to build a record number of oil pipelines. Regarding sanctions, he confirmed the US has extensive and severe measures ready to impose on Iran.
This announcement signals a significant escalation in US policy toward Iran, aiming to intensify economic pressure and isolate Tehran internationally to curb its regional influence and nuclear ambitions.
