17 West Nile Virus Cases Confirmed in Central Israel with Infected Mosquitoes Caught
The Israeli Ministry of Health and Ministry of Environmental Protection have reported the capture of mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus in several locations including Petah Tikva, Kafr Qasim, Kafr Bara, Ben Gurion Airport, and the Brenner and Central Arava regional councils. Since the start of the season, 17 cases of West Nile virus have been diagnosed in Israel, with one fatality and one patient still hospitalized. Most patients experienced symptoms such as fever, rash, and altered consciousness. Authorities are urging the public to eliminate standing water sources, use mosquito repellents, install window screens, and wear long, light-colored clothing to reduce the risk of infection.
