IDF Kills Four Hamas Nukhba Commanders in Airstrike in Northern Gaza
The Israel Defense Forces announced on August 19, 2026, that four commanders of Hamas's Nukhba unit from the Beit Lahia battalion were killed in an airstrike conducted the previous day in the Shati area of northern Gaza. Among those killed was the senior commander, Muhammad Hamdi Ahmed Al-Masri, who led a Nukhba platoon and was involved in planning terrorist attacks against IDF forces. Also killed was Samir Harb Abu Jabal, a Nukhba squad commander who participated in the October 7 raid into Israeli territory. The other two commanders, Muhammad Attar and Muhammad Fathi Hassin Nasser, were also involved in orchestrating and executing attacks against Israeli forces in Gaza.
The IDF stated that the airstrike targeted these commanders because their activities posed an immediate threat to Israeli troops. The Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area according to existing agreements and will continue operations to neutralize any immediate threats. The strike is part of ongoing IDF efforts to counter Hamas operatives deemed dangerous to Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip.
The attack took place on August 18, with the IDF confirming the identities of the four commanders after completing the identification process. The military emphasized that while it operates within the framework of agreements, it will take decisive action when an immediate threat to its forces is detected.
