Arabic-Inscribed Kite Found Near Gaza Raises Security Concerns in Israeli Border Communities

On Tuesday afternoon, security forces discovered a kite bearing Arabic writing in the Simhoni Forest near the Gaza border. Authorities are investigating the incident amid heightened tensions in the area. Earlier this month, a similar kite without an explosive device was found in the Shuva moshav, according to Tamir Aidan, head of the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council. He condemned the kite's infiltration as a "red line" violation and warned that such devices could potentially carry explosives in the future, escalating threats via drones or other means. "Today it is a kite without a payload, tomorrow it could carry explosives," Aidan said, emphasizing the heavy price already paid from past lessons.

Aidan called on the Israeli government to respond firmly, rejecting any policy of tolerance toward threats originating from Gaza. He stressed that the council would not accept a reality where the security of Sha'ar HaNegev and surrounding communities is repeatedly tested or gradually eroded.

Local residents expressed growing fears over Hamas's increasing activity. Ilanit Suisahef from Kibbutz Kfar Aza said many, including herself, have yet to return due to safety concerns following recent developments. Yael Raz Lahiani from Nahal Oz described a decline in residents' sense of security, citing a reduction in military presence alongside Hamas's strengthening. She voiced apprehension about potential future attacks, noting that the community's confidence has not recovered since the October 7 attacks three years ago.
