Jerusalem Woman Arrested for Vandalizing Cafe Opposing Sabbath Closure

Israeli police arrested a 75-year-old woman on Tuesday for allegedly gluing the lock of the Semta cafe in Jerusalem last Saturday. The woman is also suspected of spraying graffiti on the cafe's wall and littering the area. The court released her under conditions banning her from entering or approaching within 30 meters of the cafe for 180 days. The Semta cafe has been the focus of ultra-Orthodox protests in recent weeks after its owner, Yoel Ben David, decided to operate the business on the Sabbath. Security footage captured the woman applying glue to the cafe's entrance lock. On the same day, dozens of ultra-Orthodox protesters gathered again outside the cafe to demonstrate. This incident highlights ongoing tensions in Jerusalem over Sabbath observance and public business operations.
