Omer Shem Tov Publishes Book Detailing 505 Days in Hamas Captivity

A year and a half after his release from Hamas captivity, Omer Shem Tov has published a new book titled "Meeting Myself in Hell," recounting his 505 days in captivity. The book, released by Sela Meir Publishing, chronicles the difficult moments, his faith, and the personal choice that helped him endure the ordeal. Shem Tov reflects on the day of his capture, October 7, describing how his life was abruptly halted and how he did not choose to be held in Hamas tunnels, separated from family and friends.

He also shares his experience of spending fifty days alone in a dark cell, where he found a sense of control through the power of choice. Shem Tov emphasizes that despite losing almost everything, he retained the ability to choose what to think, believe, and hold onto, which sustained him through impossible circumstances. The book began as a way to document his memories and the mental and spiritual tools that helped him survive.

Shem Tov states he did not choose what happened to him but chooses how to carry the experience forward in life. After months of work on the book, he expressed excitement about sharing his story as he remembers and chooses to tell it.
