Netanyahu Backs Select Candidates in Likud Primaries Amid Internal Rivalries

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly endorsed only four candidates in the Likud party primaries so far, but insiders reveal he supports a broader slate. Netanyahu's backing is particularly focused on candidates running in districts against allies of Knesset member David Bitan. The four candidates featured in his promotional videos include attorney Shlomo Lerner in the Dan-Tel Aviv district, Erez Tadmor in Jerusalem, Shuki Ohana in the Galilee and Valleys district, and Knesset member Almog Cohen, who is running on the national list and is the only one not contesting a district seat.

Regarding the new women's slot on the list, Netanyahu's associates say he values Osnat Zohar but appears to prefer Dr. Ruth Kabsa-Abramzon. On the national list, besides the senior candidates who do not require his support, Netanyahu aims to promote Knesset members Amit Halevi, Idit Silman, and Ariel Kallner.

Despite concerns within Netanyahu's circle about the potential strong success of Knesset member Tali Gottlieb in the primaries, Netanyahu reportedly does not intend to intervene or attempt to block her progress. The internal dynamics reflect Netanyahu's strategic efforts to shape the Likud leadership ahead of upcoming elections while managing factional rivalries within the party.
