Pro-Palestinian Activist Ship Collides with German Port Wall, Causing Major Damage

A pro-Palestinian activist ship aiming to reach Gaza's coast was halted this week after it collided forcefully with a quay at the Kiel port in Germany. The vessel, originally a Danish ship named "Fru Sand" temporarily renamed "Handala II," departed from Marstal to join a maritime journey to Gaza but suffered engine damage and caused infrastructure damage estimated at 30,000 euros. Local rescue teams established a barrier around the ship due to technical malfunctions and unresolved damage assessments. The Kiel port manager, Milnehardt, stated the ship is unsuitable for the port and must leave quickly to avoid risks during strong winds. Additionally, local police are investigating the crew over the damage caused. The fundraising campaign for the project stalled after raising only 10% of the target amount and has since stopped receiving donations. Despite these setbacks, the new captain, Jan Wolnik, expressed plans to reach Gaza by September or October "for the children in Gaza." Meanwhile, activists have joined forces with local supporters from the "Students for Palestine" group to hold a protest near the damaged pier.
