Palestinian Rap Feud Erupts Over Politics, Identity, and Commercialism

A conflict has emerged within the Palestinian hip-hop scene between two prominent rappers, Shaabzid and Saint Levant. Shaabzid, based in the West Bank, released a diss track titled "SLV" in early August 2026 targeting Saint Levant, a pro-Palestinian artist who previously sparked controversy by praising an attack on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in Amsterdam. The track came shortly after both rappers announced separate concerts in Amman, Jordan, on the same night, which reportedly upset Shaabzid.

In the song, Shaabzid criticizes Saint Levant for blending politics, Palestinian identity, and celebrity culture, mocking his frequent focus on women and romance by suggesting he should be called "Saint Women." He also condemns Saint Levant's use of national symbols, referencing his watermelon tattoo, and accuses him of mixing Palestinian themes with "European lust" to appeal to Western audiences. Shaabzid further challenges the combination of political slogans like "Jerusalem is ours" with names such as Mia Khalifa and Haifa Wehbe in Saint Levant's lyrics.

Midway through the diss track, Shaabzid drops their stage names, addressing Saint Levant by his real name, Marwan, and introducing himself as Udai. He offers to pick him up at the Allenby Bridge or King Hussein Bridge to join his WhatsApp group, signaling a personal challenge.

This diss track coincides with Saint Levant's expanding commercial ventures, including his July 2026 appointment as a global ambassador for Prada, where he appeared in a campaign wearing a necklace shaped like historic Palestine. The release has sparked online debates about differing representations of Palestinian identity between artists living under occupation and those in the diaspora, as well as the interplay between national identity, commercial branding, and the entertainment industry.
