Supercomputer Predicts Tough European Challenges for Israeli Football Clubs
Ahead of the upcoming European football playoffs, a supercomputer run by FMData conducted 10,000 simulations forecasting the chances of Israeli clubs advancing. Despite Beitar Jerusalem ending its European campaign recently, Hapoel Be'er Sheva, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and Hapoel Tel Aviv continue their continental pursuits.
Hapoel Be'er Sheva, having defeated Red Star Belgrade in the third round, faces Sabah in the Champions League playoff. The simulations show a narrow disadvantage for Be'er Sheva, with a 46% chance to advance compared to Sabah's 54%. If Be'er Sheva fails to progress, it will drop to the Europa League group stage.
Hapoel Tel Aviv is set to play Atalanta in the Conference League playoffs, where the odds are heavily against the Israeli side. The supercomputer assigns only a 9% chance for Hapoel Tel Aviv to upset the Italian team, which holds a 91% probability to advance.
Maccabi Tel Aviv will face Swiss club Lugano in the Conference League playoffs and is also considered the underdog, though less dramatically. The simulations give Maccabi a 33% chance to advance, with Lugano favored at 67%. These projections highlight the challenging road ahead for Israeli teams in European competitions.
