Israel's under-16 basketball team secured a crucial 84-71 victory over Georgia on Friday, keeping their hopes alive to remain in Division A of the European Championship. Coached by Guy Kaplan, the Israeli team overcame a poor start where Georgia led 16-6, responding with a 22-3 run led by Rotem Ben David, who scored 14 points in the first quarter. Israel took a 28-21 lead into the first break and extended it to 46-39 by halftime, with Maor Sela and Ido Ziv contributing significantly.
The second half was more competitive, but Israel maintained control. Ben David scored four consecutive points and Itai Kedem hit a buzzer-beater to make it 62-54 before the final quarter. Ido Ziv was the standout player with 26 points and seven three-pointers from 12 attempts, while Maor Sela added 25 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Rotem Ben David contributed 18 points, seven assists, and six rebounds.
Israel will face either Slovenia or Belgium on Saturday at 15:30 in a decisive match. A win will ensure Israel remains in Division A, while a loss will relegate them to Division B for the first time since 2015.
