Ben Gurion Airport is experiencing significant summer travel congestion, with an unusual accumulation of about 90 flights within just three hours on Friday morning. This high concentration of arrivals in a short timeframe is causing operational strain across the airport, affecting aircraft handling, passenger wait times, and baggage unloading processes. The congestion results from the typical high summer traffic combined with airspace restrictions over Europe, particularly Greece, and the scheduling of American refueling flights that cluster arrivals into narrow windows.

The airport expects around 90,000 passengers to pass through on incoming and outgoing flights that day. The close timing of many flights reduces the availability of parking stands for aircraft, limiting operational flexibility and increasing pressure on ground services.
