Israel Confirms Negative Ebola Test for Suspected Case Returning from Congo

Israel's Ministry of Health announced that thorough testing of a person who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has confirmed a negative result for Ebola. The individual had developed suspicious symptoms and was immediately isolated in a designated medical center upon seeking treatment. The tests were conducted following professional protocols and international guidelines for managing high-risk infectious diseases.

This case follows an initial report of a suspected Ebola infection in Israel after the individual returned from the outbreak region in the DRC. The Ministry emphasized that no confirmed Ebola cases have been diagnosed in Israel to date. The patient continues to receive medical care based on their condition, but the negative test results indicate no Ebola infection.

An extensive epidemiological investigation was completed to identify any potential contacts, ensuring no further transmission risk. The patient was treated under full isolation in a specialized medical facility prepared for such cases.

The DRC has been grappling with a severe Ebola outbreak in recent months, with hundreds of confirmed cases and thousands suspected. Neighboring Uganda has also reported infections and has closed its border with the DRC. Israel's Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the situation and has implemented systemic preparedness measures, including training medical teams, establishing dedicated centers for suspected cases, and coordinating with international health organizations.

The Ministry advises the public to avoid non-essential travel to affected areas and instructs travelers returning from these regions to monitor for symptoms for 21 days, remain isolated if symptoms develop, and contact health authorities by phone. It clarified that Ebola is not airborne and spreads only through direct contact with symptomatic patients or their bodily fluids. This is the second recent instance of a suspected Ebola case returning from Congo testing negative in Israel.
