Israeli Police Criticize Supreme Court Ruling, Claim Key Leads in Military Prosecutor Case Remain Uninvestigated

Senior Israeli police officials have sharply criticized the Supreme Court's decision regarding the investigation into the former military prosecutor, alleging that significant investigative leads were overlooked. According to police sources, crucial questions remain unanswered, including who edited and disseminated a controversial video that damaged Israel's international reputation and the basis of the Attorney General's affidavit that claimed the leaker could not be identified.

A police official stated that if the head of the Investigations and Intelligence Division, Commissioner Boaz Balat, wished to continue probing the case, there is an unexamined investigative avenue concerning the video's origin and production. The official emphasized that the police have been linked to a cover-up, which harms the entire force's credibility, and called for a fresh, independent investigation to restore public trust and uncover the truth.

Additional unresolved issues highlighted include the sources of information for the affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court and whether other investigative actions have yet to be conducted. The official compared the case to the investigation of Bezalel Zini, who was questioned for aiding the enemy during wartime, suggesting that this case similarly involves potential wartime assistance to the enemy.

The police stressed that opening a new investigation depends primarily on the willingness of investigative authorities to explore these unexamined leads. In response, the police stated that the original investigation was conducted professionally and thoroughly, dismissing contrary claims as inaccurate.

The case involves former military prosecutor Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi and relates to the "Sde Teyman" affair, which has drawn significant public and legal scrutiny in Israel.
