Druze Officer Ali Shammi Becomes First in Knesset Guard History

Ali Shammi, 48, has been appointed as the permits officer in the Knesset Guard, marking the first time a Druze officer will serve in this capacity. Shammi, who joined the Knesset Guard in 2001, has held various security roles over 25 years, including serving in the external security detail, intervention force, and screening department. He currently coordinates documentation and communication in the permits and information reliability department and will now lead this unit, overseeing daily operations, staff guidance, and technological systems management.

Following his appointment, Shammi will attend the Israeli Police officers' course, after which he will become the first Druze officer in the Knesset Guard's command ranks. Knesset Guard Commander Yuval Chen praised Shammi's dedication and professionalism, highlighting the appointment as recognition of his career and a source of pride for the entire guard. Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana also congratulated Shammi, emphasizing his long service, commitment, and the significance of his role for the Druze community and Israeli society.
