Ultra-Orthodox Protesters Block Highway 4 Over Draft Evasion Arrest
On Wednesday evening, extremist ultra-Orthodox protesters from the Haradim faction known as the "Ratzpnikim," a radical group within the Jerusalem faction, blocked Highway 4 in central Israel. The blockade extended in both directions from the Aluf Sadeh interchange to the Em HaMoshavot interchange. Police warned of potential traffic congestion and additional blockages on Jabotinsky Road in Bnei Brak.
The protest was sparked by the arrest of a yeshiva student who was reportedly detained after arriving to give testimony at Lahav 433, the Israeli national crime unit. Following the testimony, the student was handed over to the military police. Authorities denied claims of wrongful arrest, stating that the suspect was summoned for questioning at Lahav 433 under caution for serious criminal offenses. Once it was confirmed that the suspect was wanted by the military police, the police followed standard procedures and transferred the information accordingly.
