Disney CEO and Jared Kushner’s Brother Buy Lakers for Record $12 Billion
The Los Angeles Lakers, one of the world's most iconic sports franchises, have been sold for a record $12 billion, marking the second sale of the team within a year. Previously, in October 2025, the Bass family sold their stake in the Lakers to Mark Walter for $10 billion. According to U.S. reports, the new buyers, who had initially pushed for establishing a team in Las Vegas, made a surprising turnaround by submitting a high offer to Walter to acquire the Lakers.
The buyers are Bob Iger, the former CEO of Disney and ex-president of ABC, and Josh Kushner, brother of Jared Kushner. Iger, 75, a Jewish-American businessman born in New York, was estimated to have a net worth of approximately $700 million in 2024. Josh Kushner is also a Jewish-American investor and businessman, founder of the investment fund Thrive Capital, and son of real estate magnate Charles Kushner. He is the brother of Jared Kushner, former senior advisor and son-in-law to former U.S. President Donald Trump, with an estimated net worth of around $5.2 billion.
This sale underscores the immense value and global appeal of the Lakers franchise, which attracts millions of fans worldwide. The transaction also highlights the growing involvement of high-profile business figures in major sports team ownership. The future plans of the new owners for the Lakers remain to be seen.
