Gymnastics Coach Evgeny Yordanov Indicted on Multiple Sex Offenses
The State Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment in Tel Aviv District Court against Evgeny Yordanov, 51, from Kiryat Ono, a coach on Israel’s artistic gymnastics national team. The charges stem from multiple alleged sex offenses committed while he was responsible for two complainants who were minors under 16 and trained with the national team.
According to the indictment, filed by attorney Nitzan Friedman of the Tel Aviv District Prosecutor’s Office, Yordanov coached the two together with his wife. During the relevant period, complainant A.A. traveled alone with the team to training camps and competitions abroad, while under Yordanov’s full responsibility.
The indictment says that between 2016 and 2020, in a series of incidents in Israel and outside the country, Yordanov used his position and authority over the girls as their coach. Prosecutors say he committed indecent acts against both complainants, including touching intimate parts of their bodies without consent.
In addition, the indictment accuses him of rape against A.A., invasion of privacy, and extortion by threats after allegedly warning her not to tell anyone about his actions. The charges include multiple sex offenses, indecent acts, rape, attempted indecent act under aggravated circumstances, invasion of privacy, and extortion by threats.
