Two Young Men Charged with Throwing Grenades and Arson in Central Israel Cities

The Central District Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against two young men, aged 21 and 23 from Modi'in, accusing them of throwing stun and fragmentation grenades at residential building entrances in Rishon Lezion and Ramat Gan, and setting a vehicle on fire in Netanya. According to the indictment, one suspect, Gazit, approached buildings with his face covered and threw grenades at entrance doors, causing damage, smoke, and soot. In one incident in Rishon Lezion, a grenade exploded near a resident and her dog who were standing behind the door.

The two suspects also planned and executed the arson of an SUV. They filled a plastic bottle with gasoline at a gas station in Lod, drove to Netanya, and after locating the vehicle, Gazit covered his face, ignited the gasoline, and set the car ablaze. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The indictment includes three counts against the pair for carrying and transporting weapons, damage with explosives, arson, and reckless endangerment.

The prosecution has requested the court to extend the suspects' detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings, emphasizing their dangerousness, lack of deterrence, disregard for human life and property, and access to dangerous weapons. Defense attorney Steinberg highlighted the severity and frequency of their offenses within a short period.
