Zofit Grant Clarifies Stance on Medication Amid Online Backlash Over Health Podcast
Israeli actress and singer Zofit Grant responded to a wave of online criticism following a podcast in which she discussed her health and mental struggles over the past three years. Media headlines misrepresented her as being categorically opposed to medication, prompting harsh and hurtful reactions from internet users. In a direct monologue, Grant sought to dispel rumors, explain her true position, and share the complex personal and family story behind her choices.
Grant revealed that her current crisis is rooted in a traumatic family experience involving her mother, who suffered a severe heart attack at age 58 and was dependent on medication for years. Grant herself faced a similar health scare on her mother’s birthday, when at age 58 she was hospitalized for blocked arteries and underwent an urgent stent procedure. Although the operation was successful, it left her with deep psychological trauma and prolonged emotional distress.
During her recovery, her cardiologist suggested a calming medication to ease anxiety and fears, especially about drug dependency reminiscent of her mother’s condition. However, Grant chose to refuse medication for her mental health, preferring to confront and listen to her emotions rather than suppress them. She employed a broad toolkit developed over years, including exercise, swimming, healthy nutrition, music, reading, courses, and meaningful social interactions to overcome the crisis. She emphasized that in the past year she has been following conventional treatment and taking necessary heart medication, but managed her mental health challenges through her own methods.
Grant expressed disappointment at the media’s distortion of her words, which led to unfounded accusations and online abuse. She shared a sensitive family detail to counter claims that her views endanger others: her brother, who suffers from severe schizophrenia, is supported by medication. She firmly stated, "I am not against medications," and clarified she never urged anyone to avoid treatment. Instead, she simply shared her personal coping approach. Grant urged the public to listen to the full podcast to understand her message and wished everyone good health and a meaningful year.
