Israel and Venezuela Restore Consular Relations Following Earthquake Aid

Following recent discussions between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia, Israel and Venezuela have agreed to renew consular relations. This agreement establishes a coordination mechanism to provide consular services to citizens of both countries, creating an official channel despite the absence of diplomatic ties since 2009.

The decision came after Israel sent a humanitarian aid delegation to Venezuela in response to powerful earthquakes that struck the country on June 24. Led by the Israeli Foreign Ministry and Home Front Command, the delegation provided professional assistance for emergency response and reconstruction efforts.

The joint statement from both nations highlighted the importance of this renewed connection, especially regarding Israel's relationship with Venezuela's Jewish community. Meanwhile, Venezuelan National Assembly Chairman Jorge Rodriguez reported that the death toll from the two devastating earthquakes has risen to 6,301.

This development marks a significant step in bilateral cooperation, particularly in emergency and recovery operations, and signals a cautious reopening of official communication channels between the two countries after more than a decade.
