Israel and Venezuela Restore Consular Relations After 17 Years

Israel and Venezuela announced on Tuesday the restoration of consular relations between the two countries, marking the first such renewal in 17 years. This development follows recent discussions between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia. The talks resulted in an agreement to establish a coordination mechanism to provide consular services to citizens of both nations. Despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations since 2009, this move creates an official channel for coordination between Israel and Venezuela.

Additionally, both countries agreed to continue cooperation in emergency and reconstruction efforts following the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24. An Israeli aid delegation, led by the Foreign Ministry and the Home Front Command, was dispatched to Venezuela to offer professional assistance in emergency response and recovery operations. The joint statement also highlighted the importance of maintaining ties between Israel and the Venezuelan Jewish community.
