Israel and Venezuela Restore Consular Ties Following Earthquake Cooperation
Israel and Venezuela have agreed to renew consular relations after recent discussions between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia. The agreement establishes a coordination mechanism to provide consular services to citizens of both countries residing in the other nation. This marks the first official coordination channel between Israel and Venezuela since diplomatic ties were severed in 2009.
The two countries also agreed to continue their technical cooperation in emergency response and reconstruction efforts following the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24. The earthquake caused billions of dollars in damage. Earlier, an Israeli aid delegation led by the Foreign Ministry and the Home Front Command traveled to Venezuela to provide professional assistance in emergency and recovery operations.
In a joint statement, both governments emphasized the importance of the relationship with the Jewish community in Venezuela, describing it as a significant bridge of historical friendship between the two nations.
