IDF Prayers and 19 Major Selichot Events Planned at Western Wall This Elul

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation has finalized preparations to host hundreds of thousands of worshippers during the Selichot prayer events throughout the month of Elul, the traditional period of mercy and forgiveness in the Jewish calendar. This year, due to high public demand, 19 major Selichot gatherings will take place at the Western Wall Plaza, each accompanied by a cantor, sound systems, and large screens to accommodate crowds and reduce congestion.

The first event is scheduled for the upcoming Saturday night, 2 Elul 5786 (August 15, 2026), starting shortly after midnight, with thousands expected to attend. These Selichot sessions will continue daily through the Ten Days of Repentance, culminating in a central event on Saturday night, 8 Tishrei 5787 (September 19, 2026), on the eve of Yom Kippur. All events will be broadcast live on the Foundation’s website and social media for those unable to attend in person.

Throughout the gatherings, participants will offer heartfelt prayers for the safety of IDF soldiers and security forces, as well as for unity and security in Israel. The full schedule includes dates from mid-August through mid-September, covering key days such as Erev Rosh Hashanah and the Fast of Gedaliah, with special prayers for the annulment of vows at midnight on these occasions.

This year’s Selichot events emphasize national solidarity and security, reflecting the current tense security situation. The Foundation’s extensive logistical arrangements aim to ensure accessibility and safety for all attendees during this spiritually significant period.
