Five Suspects Arrested in Lower Galilee Two Months After Young Man's Murder

Following a covert investigation by Northern District police, five suspects were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Farid Mazlebat. The fatal shooting occurred on June 6 in a city in the Lower Galilee, when police received a report of gunfire directed at a local resident, who later died from his injuries. Since the beginning of the year, 159 people from the Arab community have been killed.

Upon receiving the report at 17:31, multiple Northern District units responded to the scene, where a situation assessment was conducted by Northern District Commander Meir Eliyahu. The investigation was assigned to the Serious Crime Unit of the Kinneret Division. The suspects, residents of Arraba, Wadi Salameh, and Marrar, were brought in for questioning and are expected to appear in court for detention extension hearings. A gag order was issued by the Nazareth Magistrate’s Court to withhold their identities.

Magen David Adom paramedics Eric Shoah and Hana Hani Barness described the victim as unconscious, pulseless, and not breathing, with severe gunshot wounds. Despite advanced medical treatment and prolonged resuscitation efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although there has been a significant recent decline in murders within Arab communities, violent incidents persist. In the past 29 days, three people have been killed, a notable decrease compared to previous periods with daily murders. However, two worrying events occurred recently: a teacher was shot in his yard in Jatt in the Triangle area, and in Shefa-Amr, family members of a 20-year-old man are searching for him after his car was found burned.
