Maccabi Tel Aviv Seeks Resolution as Roy Revivo May Play in Sofia Amid Transfer Talks

Amid ongoing tensions between Maccabi Tel Aviv and defender Roy Revivo, the club's sporting director Steven Vanharan held a personal conversation with Revivo's father, Haim Revivo. The discussion aimed to ease the situation and persuade the former star that Roy would join the team for the crucial Europa League third qualifying round second leg against CSKA Sofia on Thursday. Maccabi was displeased with Roy's refusal to travel for the first leg in Batumi, linked to an offer from Spanish club Elche. Vanharan and Haim Revivo sought a compromise where Roy would play in Bulgaria while the club continued negotiations with Elche. Maccabi demands three million euros for the transfer, a figure Elche has yet to meet. The club believes this breakthrough may lead Roy to not only travel to Sofia but possibly start the match.

Separately, Maccabi Tel Aviv has agreed in principle to transfer midfielder Said Abu-Farha to MLS side Colorado Rapids for six million dollars plus one million in bonuses. Abu-Farha is entitled to 17 percent of the transfer fee, approximately one million dollars, though it is unclear if Maccabi will seek to reduce this clause as they did with Roy Revivo. Abu-Farha is expected to earn a net salary of $400,000 over four years, the MLS maximum for players under 22, with potential for higher wages later.

Other players attracting transfer interest include Tyrese Asante and Helio Varela, while Maccabi has only strengthened its squad with two new signings, Astr Sukler and Dan Glazer. This limited activity has caused concern among fans, who sent a critical letter to club management highlighting difficulties in selling or loaning Henry Edu, the freezing of Ion Nicolaescu, and delays in reinforcing the squad with Israeli players during the summer break.
