Nissan Midfielder Loran Abergil Suffers Serious ACL Injury Amid Club's Injury Woes

Loran Abergil, a prominent Jewish midfielder in European football, has suffered a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury shortly after joining French club OGC Nice. The 33-year-old player, who previously extended his contract with Lorient where he also served as captain, transferred to Nice about a month ago. His injury marks the fourth serious injury sustained by players at the club from the Principality within two years, continuing a troubling trend for the team.

Abergil was expected to help resolve foreign player quota issues for coach Gal Alberman but ultimately did not join Hapoel Haifa as initially planned. Meanwhile, another Israeli player in France, Mahmoud Jaber, has recently recovered from an injury he sustained just before the end of the season and the promotion playoffs. Jaber underwent surgery and has only recently returned to fitness. Although he was not included in Saint-Étienne’s squad for the opening match against Sochaux, he is expected to return to play in upcoming fixtures.

Saint-Étienne’s fan site, Peuple Vert, praised Jaber’s return, calling him "The Tractor" and highlighting his importance to the team’s midfield and offensive capabilities. The site noted that Jaber’s presence provides coach Ian Cathro with a valuable tactical option for the current season.
