Jerusalem Raises Municipal Parking Fees Amid Rising Demand and Costs

Starting August 11, visitors parking in municipal lots operated by Eden in Jerusalem will face higher fees. In the city center, hourly rates will increase from 18 to 22 shekels, a 22% rise, while other areas will see a 25% hike from 12 to 15 shekels per hour. The Talpiot area is exempt from this increase due to ongoing infrastructure work, maintaining the rate at 12 shekels to support residents, businesses, and visitors.

Jerusalem continues to offer a significant discount to residents holding the "Jerusalem resident" benefit, who will still pay only 11 shekels per hour in all municipal parking lots, with charges calculated precisely by parking duration as required by law. The municipality explains that the price adjustments aim to manage growing parking demand in city centers and encourage public transportation use, especially the light rail. Additionally, the hikes reflect rising operational costs for the parking facilities.

These new rates take effect immediately, impacting non-resident drivers from day one. A full list of affected parking lots is available on the city's website. This move follows a similar increase in Tel Aviv-Yafo, where parking fees rose by 20% on August 1 in municipal lots, alongside reduced resident discounts and delayed start times for discounted night rates in several lots.
