Prosecutors Consider Charges in Bribery and Money Laundering Case Involving Kiryat Bialik Deputy Mayor and Family

The Economic and Tax Prosecution announced on Monday that it is considering indicting Yossi Azriel, deputy and acting mayor of Kiryat Bialik, along with his two sons, Tom and Ben Azriel, on suspicions of bribery, breach of trust, and money laundering. Similar notices were sent to a real estate company owned by the Azriel family and other real estate firms, their owners, and executives. The suspects will have the opportunity to present their defense during a hearing before any charges are filed.

Between 2018 and 2022, Yossi Azriel held multiple public roles, including chairing the local planning and building committee and serving on municipal corporations controlled by the city. Prosecutors suspect that from 2019 to March 2022, Azriel and his sons exploited his public positions and influence to advance their economic interests. They allegedly established a company named Ritav, with Yossi Azriel playing a central role in its management and decision-making processes.

Ritav is suspected of being a vehicle for receiving benefits from developers operating under the jurisdiction of the local planning committee. Prosecutors are also investigating whether the Azriels’ business activities were promoted through Yossi Azriel’s public status. The decision to file formal charges will be made after the hearing and review of the defendants’ arguments.
